The duo of Hypnosis Therapy - consisting of JFlow and Jjangyou - tell a story that is bold and relentlessly defiant. Since their formation in 2022, they have exuded an energy that refuses to be contained, and the frequency of their releases attests to their consistency. The fact that they released three full-length albums at one-year intervals from 2022 to 2024 is in itself direct evidence of their unstoppable drive.
In 2025, they turned their focus more towards touring in Asia and Europe, perhaps explaining why, for the first time in a while, there was no full-length album released this year. Nevertheless, they thrilled fans with the unique and distinctive single Frog, a collaboration with Sion. A few months after Frog, the new EP NO was released, showing another side of the group, where Hypnosis Therapy's incomparable energy is channelled into an even broader sound.
NO, created in collaboration with Berlin-based electronic musician Alex Wilcox, consists of five tracks built on dizzying grooves and sweeping, powerful techno. Over hardcore beats, Jjangyou's unrestrained rap pulls listeners headfirst into a frenzy. Their music fuses the abrasive styles of Death Grips and JPEGMAFIA with the club-ready texture of Brutalismus 3000 and Pixel Grip, and before you know it, you're moving.
Right from the first track, NO, their manic energy bursts forth. Powerful drum loops and raw, scratchy effects carry a force that feels capable of blowing away all negativity. HALLO ICH BIN JJANGYOU is an example of Jjangyou's fearless delivery; remarkably, the track weaves four languages (Korean, English, Japanese and German) together without ever getting lost in the razor-sharp breakbeats. The third track, RITUAL FREESTYLE, features Luganda-speaking rapper Ecko Bazz, whose presence locks into the experimental synth placements and creates a striking synergy.
With its catchy groove and simple lyrics, WHERE'S YOUR MOTHER? is an addictive electro-punk song. There's a cheeky vibe throughout the track, and the repetitive rhythm becomes hypnotic – an enchantment that draws you in. After this, the duo go all in until the last second with the closing track UMJIGYEO! (MOVE!), an explosion of glitch and deconstructed club that turns up the excitement one last notch. It's filled with dizziness and boldness, delivering a delirious, complete dancefloor in its densely layered sound.
The EP lasts only 14 minutes, yet it feels even shorter. Filled with screams and rage, as if shaking off accumulated stress and anxiety, this record is perhaps their most colourful work to date. Short and intense: that really is the theme that defines Hypnosis Therapy.
Their upcoming schedule looks even more hectic. They're starting with a tour at the end of the year that spans Mexico and Thailand, and they've also secured spots next year at major European festivals, including Primavera Sound and Roskilde Festival. Their combustible musical energy and their rapidly rising spirit continue to spread their narrative outward.
